This company was most notable for presenting the first electric engine for boats during the 1800s. Elco employees Irwin Chase, Glenville Sinclair Tremain and Henry R. Sutphen were known as the preemptive builders of motor yachts and cruising boats. The company built lifeboats for the U. S. Coast Guard, PT boats during WWII and many other water crafts for various organizations.
