Not only is it a scarce real photo card of Thursday Island but it has also been posted there. Far more importantly the sender is an officer on His Imperial Japanese Majesty's Navy Ship HIMJS Itsukashima. This ship saw action in the Boxer Rebellion the Sino Japanese war and the Russo Japanese war and visited Australia twice on Official Friendship visits. The Japanese Navy provided an armed escort for Australian troop ships
